About Me

Mel Edwards

Mel Edwards has been a technician, educator and Technical Director for over 10 years and is involved in many projects and endeavors. Mel is a graduate from The University of Texas at Austin earning a BA in Theatre and Dance with a concentration in Scenic Technology. After college, she took on a position at Studio Theatre in Washington, DC where she served as one of three scenic carpenters building 9-10 shows a season. She continued her woodworking skills building high end cabinets and furniture with an Austin company named The WIM Group. Every summer, Mel serves as the Production Technical Director for Tal’s Theatre Summer Camp at Baylor University. During the pandemic she and two other collegues created MAB Technical Theatre, which provides online curriculum and workshops to technical theatre educators. She is also the Scho Show Coordinator for the Round Rock State Meet and has an online shop, Mighty With All Trades, that celebrates the technicians that make theatre happen. At the moment Mel is developing a number of things with her new found “free time” such as new products, freelancing, digital courses and who knows what else.
